2020: MY BOOK OF THE YEAR

DISCLAIMER: This isn’t a proper book review. It isn’t even a book review in any way. It is a random communication of my thoughts about my book of the year. Also, pardon any grammatical error you find [I doubt you’ll find one]. If you’re not someone interested in books or reading, don’t go further from here.

This year was quite a phenomenal one for me. I could have written it off because it started with two major disappointments for me. But as they say, “We move!”

I read quite a number of books this year [way below my target, but I can’t kill myself. Lol] and it was difficult for me to choose one as my best. However, I was able to narrow it down to two books. I couldn’t pick the best book for the year between these two books because they affected me almost the same way.

The two books are “The Science of Getting Rich” by Wallace Wattles and “Wealth Without Capital” by Bright Ukwenga. The former is by an American author. The latter is by a Nigerian author.

The title of these two books looks like it’s about business and making money. It isn’t entirely true. They’re tested and proven insights that will change your inside so you can change your world on the outside.

It is/was a map for me, helping me to know where I am and where I am supposed to be. So, these books are not ‘one of those books.’ The two books will literally recalibrate you mentally.

To cut a long story short, read my short review on each below.

THE SCIENCE OF GETTING RICH by WALLACE D. WATTLES

One of my counselors recommended this book to me in 2017 or so. He said it is one of the books that transformed his entire life. Guess what? The author wrote it in 1908 and published it in 1910.

I don’t know the kind of faith Wallace practiced when he was alive but I can bet he was a Christian. Much of what he wrote about looked like he had buried his head so deep in the book of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and other powerful resources on wisdom.

The book will show you how you can mentally transform yourself to transform your life. It clearly explains the science of getting all that you want and transporting your dreams from the invisible realm to this realm.

No ‘aspire to perspire’ method. Lol. Just the science.

Truth be told I’ve never read anything like this book in my life. Too deep that I had to read twice and I will read it again until it all sinks in. I’ve been practicing a few principles from the book and it is yet to fail.

Let me repeat myself, this book isn’t about making money. It is about mental transformation. Of course, if you are mentally transformed, you’re set up for a wealthy life. Maybe that was why Wallace titled it that way.

It’s amazing how a book more than 100 years old is still changing lives. Truly, if you want to be remembered long after you’re gone, write a book or do what is worth writing about. Enjoy

You can get this book from amazon or any relevant bookshops around you.

WEALTH WITHOUT CAPITAL by BRIGHT UKWENGA

If you’re confused about life, this is the book for you. This book teaches everything you won’t ever learn in conventional classrooms.

For me and many other young readers, it is a compass showing where we were, where we are, and how to get to where we want to be.

The book will hand out to you the map to navigate all seasons of life. Sometimes, I wish I can buy it for every Nigerian student and corps members.

The foreword of this book was written by Dr. Tunde Lemo, a former governor of the CBN. In this book, Mr. Bright wrote about all you need to set out in life and showed a definite route to get to the top.

The book is highly recommended for the young [who are just setting out in life] and the old, those who don’t yet know their current position in life, and those who don’t understand the science of success.

There is no lesson on success and living life practically that Bright didn’t show us in this book. The book will take you through all the various stages of life and how to successfully navigate through them and get the best out of it. It will open your eyes to the various kinds of capital you need to succeed and how to see opportunities that will change your life for the better.

Also, in this book, you’ll read about the originators of the most mundane business ideas that have grown to become multinationals.

Now is the time to read this book, for it is better to build children than to repair men. This book could be the booster your life has been yearning for. You’ll know the exact stage you currently are in life and how to move from there to your future. The lessons in this book are rare to find. You will succeed if you practice what you read.

In conclusion, I hope you get the best out of these books like me. You might have to read them more than once to fully grasp the ideas written therein. It’s a good read with uncommon insight into life. These two books still made it to my reading list for 2021. It’s a map I mustn’t let go of yet.
