The Knowledge Economy
Today’s newsletter won’t be lengthy.
What’s the Knowledge Economy?
I don’t want to bore you with a lot of vocabulary on what the Knowledge Economy is. It is self-explanatory — an economy that is driven by knowledge. It is also called “The Third Way.”
The first time I heard this word was in 2000. Wait, not exactly. It was much later in the mid-2000s. My Dad had me memorise the names of six consecutive British Prime Ministers. So, it was during that exercise I came across Tony Blair, British Prime Minister in the 2000s. He was the one that made the word stick with me and to many English nationals.
We are in the era of knowledge and as PM Blair said in his 2000 speech, “I strongly believe that the knowledge economy is our best route for success and prosperity.” Yes, it is (Cultural theorists disagree. This is a story for another day).
Tony Blair was referring to Great Britain as a nation. Although it’s people that make a nation, let’s simplify, flip and personalise the statement: Knowledge economy is our best route for PERSONAL success and prosperity.
People are going to make lots of money from their knowledge in the coming days (They already are but it’s just the tip of the iceberg). Dr Sam Adeyemi once said that you have already been given what will make you prosper.
So, what do you know/do? What knowledge do you have? What can you teach others? These questions and many other related ones are for you, me and all of us. This is a good time for people who like to impart knowledge.
For some people, knowing what to teach may not be a challenge except upskilling and improving the standard of the knowledge they are offering. You can also call it “value improvement“ because the paycheque is directly proportional to the value given.
If you are camera shy, then put the knowledge in all kinds of written forms. If not, try visual forms or both. Start a coaching program, workshop, webinars, etc. There is no fixed price to knowledge. It depends on who wants the value.
If selling your idea, mapping out your target audience and other stuff are your challenge, sorry, I can’t help you today.
Francis, I don’t know anything. My life is just there.
It’s simple. Start learning something now! The days are still young (and not young). The economy is 22 years old. Your duty is to equip yourself. I am on this ‘WhatsApp group’ too.
Let me end as Tony Blair ended in the speech: “We all have a responsibility to ensure that we are all equipped to succeed in it (knowledge economy). That way we can all prosper. All our people. And all our businesses.”
