2021: A lot depends on you

When I knew what I want to do with my life, I started equipping myself for the journey. I started attending all kinds of training, conferences and seminars that I could find — paid or unpaid.

I volunteered like [because] my life depended on it. I just wanted to do something that would bring me happiness and fulfillment.

I didn’t want to be unhappy about going to work every day. It’s crazy enough being a Nigerian. More crazy is working at a place you’re not happy with. If the place is in Lagos, na petrol meet fire be that. I’ll give you this complete gist someday. Lol

But those were part of the thoughts running through my head then. I wanted to drop out of school to chase what was calling me in 200L. I didn’t mind retaking UTME. I had to continue because I loved science but with the intention to betray the degree after graduation.

I tried small. Lol. I graduated with a 2–1. But I didn’t take my eyes off my dream…because a lot depended on me.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not discrediting classroom education. I’m just saying that some of us are studying the wrong course and that's the source of our miserable life [or underutilisation of our potentials].

Fela, the afrobeat pioneer, was sent to London to study medicine. He abandoned medicine for Music when he got there.

Let's not make this post about education and development per se. Know that a lot depends on you this year. And you must do all it takes to birth your dreams.

…for faith without works is dead.

Let me leave you with these thoughts shared by someone who has had so much influence on my mentality and thought process, Bright UK.

Read carefully. These words will bless you because a lot depends on you.

“2021 is pregnant with possibilities. Amazing possibilities!

“Yet, how much of the possibilities that you will realise is dependent on how you take responsibility to seize your opportunities.

“People have their own interests and challenges. So, don’t expect anyone to add your own to theirs.

“At best, they can connect you to opportunities but you have to seize them yourself.

“Someone can recommend you to a powerful friend, you have to grow the new relationship yourself.

“They can inform you of a job, but you have to apply for it yourself.

“They can put in a word for you, but you have to do the job yourself.

“They can suggest a new business strategy but you have to apply it to multiply your results.

“When you take whole responsibility for yourself, you are taking charge of your life and creating your own luck. And guess what?

“… you will win!
